SCHOOL IS ALMOST OUT!
Students will be dismissed at 2:00 after exams on June 3rd and 4th. Buses will run at 2:00. Students
will not be allowed to bring backpacks to school after May 30. Please encourage your student to bring home all items
from his/her locker. Please remind him/her to leave cameras and ipods at home. Those expensive items can disappear
at school.
SUMMER READING!
Austin Academy is requiring all current 6th graders to read Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life by Wendy
Mass. This reading should be completed before the first day of the next school year. Students may order the book
at school this week. Students may pick up a copy at the public library, or they may purchase one at a local bookstore.
Current 7th graders who will be enrolled in Honors English I in 8th grade next year are required to read The
Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. This book may be ordered at school, picked up at the library, or purchased at a
local bookstore. It must be read before the first day of school next year.

Incoming 6th graders will be reading Rules by Cynthia Lord.
PTA Officers Elected for 2008-2009
The PTA Officers for the 2008-2009 school year were elected at the PTA
Association Meeting on April 3, 2008 as follows: President – Marie Purser; 1 st VP Programs – Pam Karpel; 2nd VP Membership
– Sarah Swanner; 3rd VP Budget & Finance – Joanie Templeton; Secretary
– Debbie Hard; Treasurer – Tammy Dana-Bashian; Historian – Jo Dell; and Parliamentarian – Sheila Byrne.
The Nominating Committee Members are working to fill the rest of the Committees and Chairmanships on the PTA Board. If you
are interested in becoming involved and would like to serve on a committee, please contact Marie Purser at mariepurser8@aol.com or Joanie Templeton at jltemple@garlandisd.net.
